Summary
In the last three years, there has been an increase of recycled products dumped in landfill. The numbers show an increase between 2008 and 2011 of 50,000 tons, from 134,000 to 184,000. Several environmental organizations have reacted by blaming councils for not educating the households through the UK properly. Up to ten per cent has to be dumped because it is not separated from other materials like it should be. That is the major problem environmental organizations have because they think people could do so much better, because it is not how much you recycle, but how you recycle.
Reaction
I think much can be done when it comes to recycling. Many people do not even think about it, and I think this is alarming. It probably is not a favorable decision, but I think that if their would be penalties when you do not separate your trash properly, the amount of correctly parted garbage would drop significantly, and would people make more self-conscious. The government could also help with this in a different way, by making it easier to get rid of your garbage, seeing as people just dump all of their materials in the box that gets picked up the soonest.
